1954 Cushman, One Owner

The Wichita Twisters held their monthly ride and 21 scooterists showed up on a warm day with a bright sun. Our little club continues to grow slowly but steadily with a few new people showing up each time we get together. . One of the new people that showed up to ride was riding this. Italic
A 1954 Cushman Scooter.
.
I didn't get much of a chance to talk with the guy. But from what I understand he bought it new in 1954 for $175?
.
It runs like a top. The brakes are squeaky, but it is because of new pads.
.
Wish I had got better pictures, but we were having such fun riding and socializing.
.
Kick start only. Started on the first kick.
.
Quite a machine!!

  2. Dear CPA3485 (Jimbo):

I'd like to first begin by wishing the Wichita Twisters another successful riding season. The arrival of the rare Cushman at their most recent event can only be deemed a favorable portent. While the Cushman in the picture seemed somewhat Spartan to the inexperienced eye, the truth is that there are few vehicles that cannot be improved by the appearance of a scantilly clad Victoria Secret model.

The classic lines of that Cushman original reflect the straightforward design elements so prevalent in the US at the time.

I also like the name of your riding group: the Wichita Twisters. It reminds me of the name of the bar in that great Quentin Tarentino film epic, "From Dusk Till Dawn."

    Fondest regards,

that Cushman looks a little like my lawnmower powered mini-bike I had in the late 50's . The CVT was just a spring loaded V-belt hooked up to the pulley of the B&S engine, with a foot operated tension lever

  4. I see these (or variants thereof) on CL from time to time. Don't tell my wife, but it would be a kick to ride around on one of these. What a cool scoot!
