There's a Poem Here Today

Here's a poem I ran across that has some special significance for me. I first read it at a time in my life when I was recovering from critical illness and having doubts about my health and longevity. I take a lot less for granted these days. This poem is a good reminder to me that each day is special.

Look to this day;
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence.
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action
The splendour of achievement
Are but experiences of time.

For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision;
And today well-lived, makes
Yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day;
Such is the salutation to the ever-new dawn.

  1. I read this recently: "Being spiritual means not taking things for granted." I think not taking things for granted and being grateful for what one has may be the keys to a well worn life.

    Nice post.

  3. Dear Sir:

    Thank you for publishing this poem. I read it in the original Sanscrit... Since I have never studied Sanscrit, I got more out of your version. I apologize for being such a phantom of late, but getting the book out has been an ordeal. It was great hearing from you, and thanks for your support. I just read the previous blog episode of yours, and will have something to say, after I get a beer and a hot dog.

    And thanks for plugging my book. I had great fun writing to you in 2011. I look forward to riding with you next year. (Yup, it's on my bucket list.)

    Fondest regards,

  4. Jack,
    You're excused because I know you've been busy. I'm really looking forward to reading that book, though.
