Time is Money (Blogging? Not so Much)

That phrase is particularly true for me this time each year. At the office we sell time. The more we work, the more we can bill. We don't try and gouge our clients, but we need to survive financially in these depressed times. As a result, my blogging efforts will most certainly decline a bit over the next few months. Posts are liable to be less frequent. What posts there are may be shorter and comments I make on my blog and others will be less frequent. But I am always thinking about riding, and I will try to keep up my reading of the many blogs I follow. I did ride to work today. It rained last night, but stopped early this morning. It was 36 degrees, streets wet, but the ride was wonderful. We have had an unusual amount of fog in the mornings recently and that has hampered the riding a bit. Sure is nice to get out and ride again. I recently upgraded my technology a bit. I upgraded to a newer Blackberry phone and bought a new Lenovo laptop. So watch out! I may do some postings from the road in the future. The local scooter club is planning to participate in a St Patrick's day parade in March. Maybe I'll do a post from the scene of the parade carnage. Tax season is a very mental effort. A high degree of concentration is needed and time is precious because of deadlines. At times I become very mentally drained. So even though my presence in the blogging world may be less frequent for a bit, I promise to stay around and promise to be back with a vengeance! It's no wonder. As I look at you slumped down in the first picture doing all your calculations manually with a pencil and abacus, it's about time you entered the modern age and purchased a new computer.

  2. Bobskoot,
That first picture is a bad picture of a very nice print given to me by one of my clients a couple of years ago. My client publishes a trade publication and that picture was on the cover of their magazine in April of (I think) 1985.
New computers for office next year, I try and stretch them out a year or so longer than I probably should. So far no problems. It was about 1990 when technology took over our industry with software and electronic filing of returns. There is no way I could do the number of returns I do without the technological capabilities.
The new Laptop is a ThinkPad Edge (new design) and so far I love it. Getting used to Windows 7 (we never did do Vista) has been sort of fun, but like it okay so far. I haven't had a laptop in a ling time.
Sounds like you had a great time in Hawaii. Hope your wife enjoyed it too.

    Take Care

  3. Jim, happens to all of us at different times but similar reasons. We just hop the season is taxing but not too taxing -:)

  4. Better keep making money to buy more electronic crap which you then can't afford to use unless you work more so you have less time to use it. But of course then you won't have time to use it while on the road where you will be trying to get a break from all the time spent working to pay for the crap you can't use while away from home (or work). Did Siddartha have something to say about this?

  5. Chuck,
There's a line in a Pink Floyd song about making money on other people's taxes. In a way I am there. But hopefully I can help minimize them for people.
    Thanks for visiting.

  6. Conch,
Eloquently put! I like to think of it as time spent by me, so I can bill you, so you can pay me, so I can pay somebody else, and we all then get to pay some taxes and hopefully end up with health care for all! What d'ya think?
    Thanks for stopping by

  7. I can only imagine the drain tax time must create. It stresses me just thinking about it. It is simply an endurance test, I guess, for everyone.
