It must be apparent to you ...Dear CPA3485 (Jimbo):

It must be apparent to you by now that the battery store lady lied to you. And after reading 200 plus entrys on a battery thread, I can assure you that no one can predict anything with any degree of certainty regarding any brand of motorcycle or scooter battery. Some last for five years. Some last for 18 months. No one brand ever lasts as long as you'd like, and many of the same model number do not last as long as each other. Rest assured, however, if you take this same question to your club, someone (the person you like least) will invariable tell you they bought a battery at Sears for $38, that lasted 28 years, and never tasted a trickle charger.

The appropriate response is to ask them if the battery is round, as it will facilitate shoving it someplace secure. I've had new motorcycle batteries last three years, and I've had them fail in three months too.

Fondest regards,
Jack • reep • Toad
Twisted RoadsJack Riepehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07531160098262862027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2259595163018451877.post-72073150059768137572010-06-07T19:04:08.880-05:002010-06-07T19:04:08.880-05:00Charlie,

It really turned out to be just a bad battery, but I fretted over it for over a week.
You would have probably figured it out in no time. I am actually quite good at working on electrical things in my home, but for some reason cars and motorcycles are a bit vexing to me.
Thanks for your comment and support.

Jimcpa3485https://www.blogger.com/profile/00031439889267356735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2259595163018451877.post-74728101387479473982010-06-07T19:00:09.975-05:002010-06-07T19:00:09.975-05:00Conch,

Then I look at the scooter I have and marvel about how much technology there really is in it. But then again the workings of the internal combustion engine really haven't changed that much. I too am a fan of simplicity.
Thanks for croccin' by

Jimcpa3485https://www.blogger.com/profile/00031439889267356735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2259595163018451877.post-9965889645508236652010-06-07T18:56:03.816-05:002010-06-07T18:56:03.816-05:00Stacy,

I appreciate it a lot. We didn't drink beer that day, but there will be other days.
These were probably small tasks for someone such as yourself, but it is all part of a process of getting more comfortable with doing the work myself. I actually think I will like it a bit.
Thanks for the comments today.

Jimcpa3485https://www.blogger.com/profile/00031439889267356735noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2259595163018451877.post-88673043668136900022010-06-07T18:17:09.436-05:002010-06-07T18:17:09.436-05:00Good to hear you found the issue, electricals can ...Good to hear you found the issue, electricals can be quite vexing issues.redlegsrideshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10927757855921321097noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2259595163018451877.post-36511663069144720202010-06-07T12:54:35.208-05:002010-06-07T12:54:35.208-05:00I look at the Harley XR1200 and wonder. Hmm, simplicity is an end run round Ockham's Razor!
My air cooled Bonneville does very well in the list but double overhead cams are complicated for the home wrench amateur. The final drive chain surprisngly is no trouble at all.
Modern scooters offer superior performance at the price of relative complexity.Conchscooterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08016331487463993200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2259595163018451877.post-90164524791082676302010-06-07T12:34:35.592-05:002010-06-07T12:34:35.592-05:00Wrenching friends are indeed invaluable! I like to cultivate my wrenching relationships through the frequent application of fine microbrews.

Hey, the Beemer guys don't call it "barley therapy" for nothing.Stacyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04582046943770681695noreply@blogger.com
